And as we were leaving there was another horse laying by the side of the road sunning. It was a chance for us to drive around and even walk a bit on the beach. We will most likely visit again and hope that we see more horses the next time. We saw a great deal of horse crap, but five was our limit for the day. ASSATEAGUE ISLAND NATIONAL SEASHORE REVIEWS DRIVER
The ranger there came toward us and chastised the driver who honked. We slowed down and were getting ready to snap a photo when the idiot behind us honked. We pulled into the park and were driving slowly along the road and there were three horses close by, right by the side of the road. So we were prepared to search out the horses as well as be prepared to walk away when one got too close.

We stopped at the visitors center and were told if the horses walked up to you, walk away cause they bite and cause other damage. We were going to see horses frolicking on the beach. Just like bears in other State and National Parks, they lose their fear of humans and are looking for food. They are wild so don't approach, attempt to touch or feed then. Drive slowly and carefully as the horses do wander onto the roadway. Shortly after beginning our drive to the seashore, we came upon the wild horses along the road. The cost to enter the Park is $5.00 on the honor system I assume since it was October and there was no one manning the booth. Assateague Island State State Park and Assateague Island National Seashore are all in the same area.
